Republicans are now a threat to our democracy, opting to turn the USA into Lebanon
With reports that the Republican party is planning to lead a national effort to rig the electoral college in favor of the 2016 Republican presidential candidate it is safe to consider the Republican party a threat to the one man, one vote democracy we have.
The Republicans, maybe seeing the demographic shift and not wanting to embrace it to evolve are opting to come up with a voting solution that in essence would create a Lebanese like democracy. Lebanon is a parliamentary democratic republic within the overall framework of confessionalism, a form of consociationalism in which the highest offices are proportionately reserved for representatives from certain religious communities. If the scheme of the Republicans take hold (and efforts to enact it seem to be stumbling only because attention was brought to the issue) the USA will see a system where the nearly empty countryside where it seems the GOP has a hold on white WASPish populations has a weighted advantage against urban areas.
It would also be a system where the richer urban cities transfer wealth to the poorer urban white areas, where as the GOP will become a parasite entity living off the riches of urban population centers which they despise (Republicans still maintain the myth that their voting base is being sucked dry by Democrats when it is the “Red” voting states that get more Federal aid than they contribute).
This attempt by the GOP to rig the elections (and change the nature of the American democracy) is a bigger threat than any attempt to restrict voting or stuff ballot boxes, etc.
