Wow. I can see the thinking on that.

That would bode ill for the US. It would meann multiple civil wars over a very short time. Also a fractured Military.

I feel this electoral college rigging is an attempt by some in the Republican party (which is no longer the ‘party of Lincoln’ but the Nixonian Dixiecrats) to create an electoral scheme by which they can split from the American people they can’t stand (pretty much anyone who is not one of their kind) and still have political power while alienating the majority of Americans.

I’m no fan of the recent Republican games with the electoral college.

However, there is no such thing in the US as a one man, one vote democracy with respect to presidential elections.

The presidential electors can be chosen by the state legislatures in any way that appeals to the state legislatures.

If appropriate changes to the relevant state laws are made, it would be perfectly legal for the VA, PA, WI, FL, and OH state legislatures (if they are GOP in 2016) to not have any general elections at all for president, and send in slates of 100% Republican electors.

To address this:

1) People who want to vote democratic for president should also do so at the state level (i.e., Federal-State ticket splitting is stupid).

2) National Popular Vote as a way to get to direct popular vote for president without needed a constitutional amendment. [Link: www.nationalpopularvote.com…]

That we continue the antiquated electoral college system created by slave owners and plutocrats who feared the people they owned or exploited is a disgrace.
